Sunday, January 25th
8:00pm
Mesdames et Monsieurs,
keepers of the hush-hush Speakeasy flame, we will
kick off the New Year with a certain je ne sais
what…French flair as we welcome Tosh Berman
of Tam Tam Books. Tam Tam will be celebrating
the publication of their latest literary gem,
Foam of the Daze (Le’Ecume des Jours) by
Boris Vian. Please scroll down for the skinny
on Tam Tam. Our bookmark has been designed by
the multi-talented Tom Recchion. Our drink will
be called Chloe, and is a playful punch, quite
intoxicating, served with candy. What else could
we ask for? A complex game and, of course, your
company. Voulez vous rendezvous?

Tom Recchion has been an
artist/composer/experimental musician in Southern
California since the 1970s as co-creator of the legendary
L.A. Free Music Society. His early explorations in low-tech
sonic exploration presaged many of the genres exciting developments
of the last quarter century: record manipulation, live tape
loops, free improvisation, found and invented instruments,
and more. He currently plays with his group Extended Organ
(Paul McCarthy, Joe Potts, Fredrik Nilsen and Mike Kelley)
and has collaborated with musician/writer David Toop, musicians
Mark Trayle, Oren Ambarchi, Keiji Haino, Carl Stone, Jad
Fair and Christian Marclay to name a few. He also occasionally
writes for WIRE magazine and has many recordings released.
The most recent solo CD I Love My Organ has just
been released. He has recordings on Birdman, Touch, Barooni,
Sub Rosa, Idea, Staubgold,
Tigerbeat6 and the Cortical Foundation. Most recently he
was one of the 2004 COLA grant recipients in the visual
artist category and has just been commissioned to compose
works for the Kronos Quartet. In development is a collaboration
with monologist David Greenberger, and another with sound
artist John Duncan. As a four-time Grammy-nominated art
director/graphic designer Recchion has designed for Lou
Reed/John Cale, Robert Wyatt, Terry Riley, David Lynch,
MOCA, REM, Prince, Los Lobos, Jimmy Scott, Brian Wilson
& Van Dyke Parks, Warner Bros. Records, Virgin Records,
Hermann Nitsch, Captain Beefheart and of course, TamTam
Books. |
